U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki will tour the Orlando VA Medical Center construction site on Friday.
Scheduled to open in late 2012, work on the 1.2 million square-foot facility is well underway and will include 134 inpatient beds, a 120-bed community living center and a 60-bed residential rehabilitation center.
The $655 million state-of-the-art facility is being built on 65 acres and is part of the new “Medical City” emerging in East Orlando, to include the University of Central Florida Medical School, Sanford-Burnham Institute for Medical Research, Nemours Children’s Hospital, MD Anderson Cancer Center and the University of Florida Academic Research Center.
The Orlando VA Medical Center will increase access to the highest quality health care for Central Florida veterans.
