Sheriff Demings Declares War on Gangs

Twenty-six members of a criminal street gang, responsible for a homicide, attempted homicides, drug trafficking and violent felony crimes have been arrested, the Orange county Sheriff’s Office announced today.

According to a released statement, in 2007, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Gang Enforcement Unit began a criminal investigation to prosecute members and associates of the “Insane MOB” (Money Over Bitches) and to dismantle the criminal organization.

On July 30, 2010, the Gang Unit, working in collaboration with FDLE, DEA, FBI, TAC and POPS executed an arrest operation targeting several primary members of the Insane MOB criminal street gang.  The sweep led to the arrest of nine of the top members including the leader, forfeiture of $7,200, firearms and an array of illegal drugs.

In late 2006, the then-leader, Joey Vera, was killed in a drug related shooting at the corner of Goldenrod Road and Sun Vista Drive. After Joey Vera’s death, Theodore Vazquez, Ismael Vera, and Kenneth Vera became the leaders of the gang.

The “Insane MOB” is responsible for a homicide, attempted homicides, drug trafficking, firearms sales, arsons and many other violent felony crimes, the statement said.  The gang has been in existence for several years and has ties with other gangs in Chicago.
