Seniors First Receives $5k from Meals on Wheels

Seniors First, Inc. is pleased to announce that they have been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA). This grant was provided through MOWAA’s “Most Meals” contest, in partnership with Subaru’s “Share the Love” campaign, which helps raise funds for select nonprofit organizations during the holiday season.

MOWAA created the “Most Meals” contest to help foster relationships between local Meals On Wheels programs and Subaru dealerships during the “Share The Love” campaign. As the Meals On Wheels provider for Orange County, Seniors First worked with Sport Subaru of Orlando, which helped engage community members in the fight to end senior hunger and sponsored a pace car during Seniors First’s Turkey trot 5k fundraiser.

“We are excited to participate in this wonderful endeavor, and are proud to have a relationship with a company, like Subaru, that is committed to helping end senior hunger in our community.” said Marsha Lorenz, president and CEO of Seniors First, Inc.

As one of five nonprofit organizations selected to participate in the Subaru “Share the Love” campaign, MOWAA will award $150,000 (ranging from $250 to $35,000 each) in grants to 48 Meals On Wheels programs across the country. Locally, Seniors First will allocate the funds to its Meals On Wheels program, which provides more than 900 meals every weekday to homebound seniors.

The Subaru “Share The Love” event ran from Nov. 19, 2011 to Jan. 3, 2012. In addition, Subaru donated $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased during the event to the customer’s choice of five charitable partners, which included MOWAA. Over the past three years, proceeds from this campaign supported MOWAA’s vision of ending senior hunger by 2020.

“We are honored to be part of “Share The Love” again this year,” said Enid Borden president and CEO of MOWAA. “Subaru is a corporation with a conscience – they understand that providing nutritious meals to hungry and homebound seniors in need is a moral imperative.”
