Seniors First help feed Orlando’s Hungry

Seniors First, Inc. is pleased to announce their participation in the 13th Annual Feinstein Foundation’s Million Dollar Challenge to fight hunger. The Feinstein Foundation will award Seniors First a monetary grant based on all cash and food donations to the agency between March 1, 2010 and April 30, 2010. Seniors First is participating in this challenge to help support the agency’s Meals On Wheels program and other services that help seniors maintain their independence and dignity.

All designated monetary contributions and food donations made to Seniors First during March and April will be matched through the Feinstein Foundation challenge. The agency will receive a share of the $1 million equal to the proportion of the total amount raised by all participants. The more contributions made to Seniors First, the greater the return from the Feinstein Foundation.

Meals On Wheels is a home delivered meal program that provides a hot, nutritious lunch to more than 600 frail seniors each weekday. The purpose of this program is to enable the community’s homebound elderly residents to remain independent in their own homes, while ensuring that their daily nutritional needs are being met. Volunteers deliver Meals On Wheels Monday through Friday and are often the only person the seniors see each day.

Alan Shawn Feinstein’s $1 million challenges to fight hunger have raised a record $1 billion for more than 2000 agencies nationwide. Of his reason to make the donation, Feinstein said, “We were each put here on earth to do what we can to help those in need. Someday, all that will matter is what we did while we were here to help those in need.”

Anyone wishing to support this project and increase the match from the Feinstein Foundation can send their tax deductible donation to: Seniors First, Inc., Attn: Feinstein Challenge, 5395 L.B. McLeod Road, Orlando, FL 32811. To donate food items or for questions regarding Meals On Wheels and other senior services contact Michelle Lowe at 407-615-8962 or mlowe@seniorsfirstinc.org.
