Florida Senator Rick Scott supports the Chloe Cole Act, saying he wants to protect children from gender ideology.
Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Marsha Blackburn and their colleagues in announcing the Chloe Cole Act to officially prohibit the mutilation of children under the disguise of gender ideology and offer detransitioners, like Chloe Cole, with opportunities for legal action against those medical professionals. Republicans said the legislation is supported by the U.S. Department of Justice and will codify President Donald Trump’s executive order protecting children from chemical and surgical mutilation.
“It is sickening that any child would be subjected to dangerous, life-altering procedures that they are too young to understand or fully consent to,” Republican Senator Rick Scott said. “This legislation will support the victims of this disgusting practice and ensures these children and their families have the right to hold accountable medical professionals for violating their trust and causing long-term harm to their lives.”
Senator Marsha Blackburn said, “No child should be pushed into irreversible chemical and surgical mutilation under the guise of so-called ‘gender-affirming care. The Chloe Cole Act would put a stop to this barbaric abuse of children and give those who have suffered the consequences of these harmful procedures the chance to fight back.”
Democrats have largely opposed actions to restrict gender-affirming care, including the “Chloe Cole Act,” calling it a Republican effort to restrict access to medical care for transgender youth. Many Democratic officials defend gender-affirming therapies for children or remain quiet on the issue.
