The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County (DOH-Seminole) invites you to join the Take a Loved One to the Doctor Month campaign. This campaign aims to improve the health of all Floridians by encouraging prevention and early detection.
The Department of Health in Seminole County will be hosting a special event for the community Thursday September 26th from 1:00 – 4:00pm at their main clinic located at 400 W. Airport Boulevard in Sanford. Participants will receive free health screenings including STD, cholesterol, blood pressure, hemoglobin, glucose as well as connect with local health resources. There will be door prizes and raffles throughout the afternoon. The event is hosted in partnership with various community agencies, hospitals and private health providers.
“This event is an opportunity to create awareness on the importance of visiting a physician, not only when sick but as a way to prevent many chronic diseases. May September be the start of taking your loved ones to the doctor and making health a priority,” said Dr. Swannie Jett DrPH, MSc, Health Officer of the department of health in Seminole County.
This Department of Health statewide campaign is inspired by the Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day national initiative which is celebrated annually on the third Tuesday in September. The Department is seeking to remind Florida residents and visitors of the importance of seeking health care by extending this observance all month long. The 2013 campaign theme, “Health by Choice, Not by Chance: Working Together For a Healthy Community,” is an encouragement to all Floridians to take a proactive approach to health.
