In light of the Boston Marathon bombings which left three peopled dead and over 110 injured, there will be an increased law enforcement presence at the upcoming IOA Corporate 5k on Thursday, as well as other major events, Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney said Tuesday.
“Public safety is the number one concern,” said Rooney in a statement. “While we have plans in place to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors, The Orlando Police Department is taking appropriate precautionary measures, including additional staffing at events for the comfort of those in attendance.”
Rooney added that while for security reasons, specific measures cannot be discussed, there is going to be a significant law enforcement and security presence at the IOK Corporate 5K hosted in downtown Orlando, as well as other major events. Â The chief reminded residents and visitors remain alert and “if you see something say something.”
The IOK Corporate 5K is a 3.1-mile run/walk event held exclusively for Florida’s corporate community which take place on Thursday, April 18th, at Lake Eola, downtown Orlando, 227 Eola Drive beginning at 7:15 p.m.
Businesses and non-profit organizations form teams and participate in the Corporate 5k for camaraderie, friendly competition and celebrating with co-workers. Consisting of over 700 local companies made up of 14,000 participants that include employees, CEOs, vendors, friends and families, the community joins together in downtown Orlando for fun, networking, and a celebration of healthy living.
