On July 21st, a truck delivered 40,000 pounds of macaroni and cheese, which was donated by Land O’Lakes. On top of that incredible donation, a representative from Southeast Milk, Inc. hand-delivered a monetary donation for dairy products.
The Land O’Lakes Macaroni & Cheese to Second Harvest was made possible through the Land O’Lakes First Run Program.
The First Run Program has donated more than 6.5 million pounds of product since it was established in 2010. The program is committed to donating truckloads of fresh product year-round, made specifically for food banks to help alleviate hunger across the United States.
“As a national, farmer-owned cooperative, Land O’Lakes is committed to helping the growing number of people who struggle to put food on their table,” said Sheilah Stewart, SVP & General Counsel, Land O’Lakes, Inc. “The First Run program provides a unique opportunity for Land O’Lakes to offer nutritious products to families in need.”
“Partnerships like this one with Land O’Lakes are vital for local hunger relief efforts,” added Derrick Chubbs, president and CEO at Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. “Inflation is severely impacting many families who are now faced with making difficult decisions when it comes to expenses. Food should never be a concern and this donation will feed hope to hundreds of Central Floridians.”
Land O’Lakes cooperative member, Southeast Milk, Inc., provided a monetary donation for dairy products alongside the in-kind donation.
“Part of our mission at Southeast Milk focuses on enriching not only our farms but our local communities,” said Shawn Dyal, Southeast Milk’s CEO. “Programs like First Run help us reduce food insecurity for our neighbors. We are beyond proud to partner with Land O’Lakes for this fantastic cause.”
