Search on for Hit and Run Driver

A DeLand woman was struck and killed by a hit and run driver on Wednesday on Spring Garden Avenue near West Talton Avenue in Volusia County, as she attempted to cross the road, Florida Highway Patrol said.

Celina Caprescecco, 44, the pedestrian stuck by the hit and run driver, died from her injuries at the Halifax Hospital.

Troopers said that a white 1997 Chevy Ventura was heading southbound on Spring Garden Avenue around 6:30 pm, on Wednesday evening, when Caprescecco was walking westbound across the southbound lanes of Spring Garden Avenue.  The front of the Chevy struck Caprescecco and then the driver fled the scene of the collision.

Witnesses said that the Chevy fled the scene traveling south, turning east on Camphor Lane.  They have described the driver as Caucasian.

FHP said that the Chevy sustained damage to the right front area and should be missing the right front light assembly.

Anyone with information about the crash or the Chevy Ventura should contact FHP at 407-737-2213.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
