Scott Unmoved, ‘Stand Your Ground’ will Remain

Protestors camped out at the state Capitol in Tallahassee got an opportunity to meet with Gov. Rick Scott late Thursday, and pushed him to repeal Florida’s “stand your ground” law, as well as urging that steps be taken to combat racial profiling.

In Florida and across the country, there have been protests in light of the acquittal of George Zimmerman, the man responsible for shooting to death Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teen, in February 2012.

In their meeting with Scott, protestors also called for a Special Session to review and repeal Florida’s ‘stand your ground’ law.

Scott, who listened intently to the protestors and took a lot of notes, in the end said, he supports keeping Florida’s ‘stand your ground’ law on the books and he won’t call a Special Session.

According to news reports, protestors said, they would remain in the Capitol until Scott called a Special Session.
