Scott to Repeal Over 1,000 State Rules

Gov. Rick Scott is on a mission to repeal more than 1,000 state rules, which he says, in many cases duplicate federal regulations and cost money for persons to be in compliance.

Scott will like the rules, which were drawn up by state agencies to implement laws passed by the Florida Legislature, to be repealed in one shot, the Miami Herald reports.

“Every rule costs money. Just the fact that you have to research to find out if you’re in compliance,” Scott told the Herald/Times. “It’s so complicated people have to hire consultants to figure out how to comply.”

Democrats do not object to Scott’s desire to squash state rules, but they want an orderly process, including public notices and possibly public hearings, in some cases.

Scott plans to ask lawmakers next year to repeal all the rules.
