Scott Now Willing to Negotiate with Feds on Obamacare

Gov. Rick Scott

Gov. Rick Scott may be softening his opposition to the Affordable Care Act now that President Obama has been re-elected for a second 4-year term.

Scott, who has strongly criticized Obamacare and called for its repeal said, he would like to negotiate with the federal government in a way that could help families, The Florida Current reports.   In the past, Scott has said repeatedly he has no intention of expanding Medicaid or establishing insurance exchanges, two key dimensions called for under the Act and which are fully-funded by the federal government for the next three years.

Scott’s delay in implementing Obamacare has cost the state millions of dollars in federal funding and now requires a robust effort to make up time.  For example, the insurance exchanges must be ready to enroll people by October 1, 2013, so that coverage could begin January 1, 2014.   States have until December 14, to submit a blueprint on how they plan to go about creating the insurance exchanges, or let the federal government do it for them.

While Scott has said he is open to negotiations with the federal government, up to this point, it is still unclear what will actually be implemented in Florida.

States like Connecticut, New York and California are well ahead of Florida in implementing major portions of Obamacare.

  1. There is no grey cloud over the Florida Classic as written by ms, owens of the sentinel. Her commentary belonged at the back of section A and not on the front sports page. Of course she is not the first puppet used by the sentinel to try and hurt the Florida Classic. They give very little ink to the athletic accomplishments of B-CU and FAMU. We will be celebrating this Classic weekend as we do every year whether the Sentinel and “big school” supporters want us to or not. We sympathize with the Champion family. However, the Florida Classic is a football game first and foremost. Rattlers and Wildcats have been rivals for decades. Thousands of student athletes have given blood, sweat and tears in these athletic contests. Keep your positive ink and continue to report only on the “big schools” and we will continue to mold professionals and “Hall of Famers”. It is sad that so many local “big school” supporters hate the fact that these two HBCUs can put 60-70 thousand fans in the stands year after year. Haters!
