The Florida Civil Rights Association President J. Willie David, III, is leading a statewide civil rights delegation, calling on Gov. Rick Scott to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., not merely through words, but more importantly through actions.
David, who is leading a 15-member delegation of community leaders and activists, will attend a reception at the Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee later today, Monday, January 17. They will meet with Scott, Attorney General Pam Bondi and other members of the Cabinet who will be present at the reception.
“This is a great opportunity for the FCRA delegation to address these State Officials about civil rights issues related to their administration,” said David. These newly elected State Officials must go beyond releasing public statements on MLK and become champions of civil rights and diversity for the people of Florida. MLK would have wanted them to honor his legacy through action, not just through words and speeches.”
Floridians want fairness and equality for their family members, friends and neighbors, and expect their elected officials to work to achieve those goals, David added.
David will also be in Tallahassee meeting with community leaders to form a local branch of FCRA.
