Tropical Storm Isaac passed over the Florida Keys overnight and initial reports at first light were “we didn’t have a lot of damage,” Gov. Rick Scott said Monday morning.
Scott, doing a hurricane update from the Palm Harbor hotel where the Florida delegation to the Republican National Convention is staying, said there were some power outages in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, but that Monroe County actually didn’t have widespread power outages.
“Right now, it’s headed toward New Orleans, which is a problem,” Scott said.
The governor has canceled his other convention appearances, though he is in the Tampa Bay area. He said he would spend Monday at the Pinellas County emergency operations center, but wasn’t sure where he would go after that.
“I wish I was going to be able to participate more, but the most important thing we can do is keep everybody safe,” Scott said.
The risk for Florida from Isaac now is mostly in the Panhandle, Scott said, noting it is drenched already from Tropical Storm Debbie. He said Escambia County, which includes Penscola, may see 30 hours of tropical storm force winds and could get more than 15 inches of rain.
