Gov. Rick Scott has long called the Affordable Care Act, the “biggest job-killer ever,” yet he appeared to take credit for some 1,000 new jobs to be created by HealthPlan Services, a Tampa-based health care company.
HealthPlan Services CEO Jeffrey Bak, who made the announcement on Wednesday said, the addition of 1,000 jobs would “probably not” be expanding in Tampa without the passage of the Affordable Care Act.
But Scott, who was present for the announcement, maintained that the major federal healthcare overhaul is “going to have an adverse effect on jobs.” Added Scott, “When you announce a lot of jobs, it’s fun.”
Florida for All Chairman, Carlos Odio was quick to call out Scott for his double-speak.
“Governor Scott will do and say anything to stay in power. That includes contradicting himself on health care and jobs as well as passing tax breaks for his special interest donors,” he said in a statement. “Florida voters can’t trust a politician like Rick Scott who has shown over and over again his only true constituency is himself.”
Added Odio, “While Rick Scott’s political rhetoric might change by the day, his record does not. The Governor and his special interest friends are doing just fine, but Florida’s families are still suffering.”
