School Custodian Arrested for Bringing Firearm to Central Florida Campus

A school custodian was arrested for bringing a firearm to a Central Florida high school campus.

Last week on August 7th at 11:15am, the school administration at King High School in Tampa notified the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office’s STAR Team of a firearm that was located secured in a maintenance closet.

Detectives learned through investigative means that the firearm belonged to 58-year-old Michael Difabio, who was employed as a custodian at the school. Difabio has been employed by King High School since January 2023, according to officials.

“There is no place for weapons on school grounds. Schools should be sanctuaries where students and staff should feel safe and secure,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “The first day of school is just around the corner, and our message is loud and clear, we will not tolerate weapons on campus for any reason.”

Difabio is facing one charge of Possession of a Firearm on School Grounds. At the time of his arrest, Difabio resigned from the school.

This is an active investigation, according to local law enforcement.
