A scammer was caught in Central Florida after picking up $8,000 of the victim’s cash.
The 74-year-old victim was contacted by someone impersonating her bank and was instructed to withdraw $8,000 for a courier pickup.
Upon realizing she had been scammed, the victim contacted law enforcement and provided the courier’s tag number to Volusia Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Leven who was able to track down the drop-off location.
According to local law enforcement, surveillance video showed the courier handing the package to 25-year-old Amoye Jameison, of Jamaica.
The fraud victim’s quick action and Volusia County deputies’ swift response led to $8,000 being recovered, according to local law enforcement.
According to local law enforcement, Amoye Jamieson was charged with Organized Scheme to Defraud and Grand Theft and was held at the Volusia County Branch Jail without bond. ICE was contacted as Jameison is in the country on an expired visa.
“The $8,000 belonging to the victim was returned. Great job to District 1 deputies and the Financial Crimes Unit,” VSO stated.
