Community organizations, including National Action Network- Central Florida Chapter, Fight Back Coalition and Believers Outreach Ministries will hold a March and Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, March 6 at 5:30 p.m., to protest the planned tearing down of Tinker Field, the historic site of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s., historic Orlando speech in 1964.
Dubbed the MLK March, the march will begin at the Tinker Field Parking Lot, 287 S. Tampa Avenue, at 5:30 p.m., and proceed to FAMU College of Law.
In May 2004, Tinker Field was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Tinker Field was constructed back in 1923 and is the “most historic of all the Orlando Venues.” It is located directly adjacent to the western side of the Citrus Bowl on West Church Street, and can seat more than 5,000 people.
