A Sanford man was arrested Friday, charged with DUI manslaughter in the death of a 3-year-old girl in March, earlier this year.
Troopers say, little Gabriel Jones was riding in her mother’s car on March 13, on County Road 437, when 39-year-old John S. Abbott, traveling in the opposite direction, lost control of his vehicle and struck Taira Ann Jones’ vehicle. 3-year-old Gabriel died at the scene of the crash.
Troopers say, Abbott’s blood sample confirmed that he was under the influence of Xanax and Oxycodone at the time of the crash.
Abbott turned himself into troopers at FHP Headquarters today and was booked into the Orange County Jail, without bond.
Troopers say, he will be transferred to the Lake County Jail at a later date.
