Tea Party favorite, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) recently announced he is sponsoring legislation that will lay off 10 percent of the federal workforce in the next four years.
The bill, falsely called, “Reducing the Size of the Federal Government Through Attrition Act,” S. 1611, will cut one in 10 federal workers by 2015, thinkprogress.org reports.
A press release from Rubio’s office said, the bill “would save approximately $139 billion over 10 years.”
With a federal workforce of 4.4 million, Rubio’s bill would throw 440,000 Americans out of work, even as unemployment remains stubbornly high at 9.1 percent nationwide.
According to thinkprogress.org, Rubio’s bill mandates the president to fire workers and states, “The President, through the Office of Management and Budget…shall take appropriate measures to ensure that, effective beginning in fiscal year 2015, the total number of Federal employees…shall not exceed 90 percent of the total number of Federal employees as of September 30,2011 (as so determined).”
Rubio is again up to his dirty tricks as, given the short lead time for implementing the mandate, massive layoffs will be required.
