Rubio, Crist in Dead Heat as Meek Gains

A just released CNN Opinion Research Poll finds Gov. Charlie Crist, independent candidate for U.S. Senate in a dead heat with Former House Speaker Republican candidate Marco Rubio.

Gov. Crist (l), Rep. Meek (c) and Marco Rubio (r)

Of the 899 registered voters polled, 36 percent say they support Rubio, with 34 percent indicating they would vote for Crist.  Twenty-four percent (24%) said if the election were held today, they would vote for the Democratic candidate, Representative Kendrick Meek. The poll revealed that three percent (3%) had no opinion while another three percent said they would vote for none of the candidates.

“A three-way race is producing a three-way split among Florida voters,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “Meek wins majority support among Democrats while Rubio picks up seven in ten Republicans. Among Independents, it’s Crist with 45 percent, distantly followed by Rubio with 29 percent and Meek with only 16 percent of Independents.”

The survey also revealed that Crist comes out on top in the three-way-race in the Tampa Bay area with 41 percent, and is virtually even in South Central Florida with 38 percent to Rubio’s 40 percent.

In the Miami-Southern area, the vote is more evenly split with Crist: 33 percent, Meek: 34 percent, and Rubio 27 percent.  In North Florida Rubio dominates with 44 percent of the vote.

The poll was conduced during September 2-5, 2010, among 899 registered voters and has a margin of error or +/-3.5.
