Dave Bitner, Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) Chairman and former state lawmaker, died Thursday, losing a battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Scleroris,or Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was 62.
Bitner, a Tallahassee lobbyist and longtime Republican insider, announced Aug. 31 he would step down Sept. 23 from his post as party leader, saying the disease was taking away from his ability to do his job.
A Monticello resident, Bitner served from 1992 to 2000 in the Florida House and later lobbied for clients including BellSouth, The Carlisle Group and FPL.
