State Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson described Harrelson as a visionary educational leader in her community, who displays unwavering commitment to student success. While in Tallahassee today, Harrelson met with principals and assistant principals from around the state to discuss educational issues and offer solutions.

Joining Rosemont as principal in 2010-2011, Harrelson and her staff elevated the school’s state grade from a D to an A.

To win the state award, she was also rated on decision-making strategies, ethics in leadership, and collaboration with community members, as well as her ability to lead a strong academic team.

“I am honored and humbled. I have the best job. No leader does this alone. This happened because I have a strong team in place and I am honored to bring this award back to Rosemont,” Harrelson said.

Harrelson was presented with a check for $5,000, an obelisk, and $1,000 to use for her school.
