Rita Bornstein, President Emeritus of Rollins College, will receive the Historical Society of Central Florida’s highest honor at the eighth annual John Young History Maker Celebration on May 8, 2013, in Orlando, Fla. The John Young History Maker Award, named after Capt. John Young, is given each year to a Central Floridian whose achievement has made a historic impact on the community. The History Maker Celebration is the Historical Society’s largest fundraiser of the year and will be held at The Ballroom at Church Street.
The John Young History Maker Past award will be given posthumously to former General Manager of OUC-the Reliable One, Curtis Stanton. The Historical Society of Central Florida will announce the recipient of the 2013 John Young History Maker Future Award and Scott Harris Memorial scholarship at the May 8th celebration. The $2,500 scholarship is awarded annually to one outstanding Orange County high school senior planning to attend a four-year university.
The gala event is expected to draw nearly 300 guests. Funds raised from the event support nationally important exhibitions and educational programs that served more than 136,000 children and adults in the community last year alone. The event is being sponsored by Dr. Phillips Charities, Puff n’ Stuff, Greenberg Traurig LLP, and Central Florida News13.
Sponsorships, tables, and tickets are available for the gala event, including a reception at 5:30 p.m. and ceremony and dinner at 6:30 p.m. For more information and pricing and sponsorship opportunities, call (407) 836-8370 or email [email protected].
