Although former state senator Nan Rich was not allowed to speak at the Florida Democrats annual fundraising Jefferson-Jackson dinner, it appears with the brouhaha, she’s now become a hot item.
For weeks the Republican Party of Florida tweeted about the Rich snub and much was written by the liberal media on why it was stupid for the state Democratic Party not to grant her a 5-minute speaking role.
As a result, Rich got a lot of free publicity.
“It’s amazing the amount publicity,” Rich said, the Herald Tribune reported. “Some people have said it’s upwards of a million dollars worth of earned media. I don’t know if that’s an exaggeration, but certainly hundreds of thousands of dollars in earned media. And people who weren’t paying any attention to me are now paying attention to me.”
Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Allison Tant who held the line that Rich ought not to be given time to speak at the dinner, did agree that she benefited from the attention, thanks to the Republican Party of Florida, the paper also reported.
Rich is the only announced Democratic candidate so far in the race for Florida governor.
