Republican Byron Donalds Lists Priorities in Bid for Florida Governor, Democrats Respond

Republican Byron Donalds listed early priorities in his bid for Florida Governor, and Democrats quickly responded to the Trump-endorsed candidate’s campaign news.

“We will take the Sunshine State to even greater heights,” Rep. Donalds, who is currently a Florida Congressman, posted on social meda. He made his announcement to run for Florida Governor in 2026 on Hannity on FoxNews recently.

Byron Donalds Florida GovernorRepublicans are divided, with Casey DeSantis leading in recent polls as the preferred choice to succeed her husband. The Florida Democratic Party called Byron Donalds a “dangerous political opportunist.”

Donalds posted that he wanted to work to solve the insurance crisis. He also wants to make Florida the financial hub of the world, and make Florida the most business-friendly state in the nation. That includes things like taking the lead on crypto and digital assets, the Republican added. He wants to restore the Everglades Waterways and ensure clean water for all Floridians. Donalds also posted that he wants to ensure “our children have the tools they need to be proficient in reading, writing, math, and reasoning.”

The Florida Democratic Party quickly responded to Byron Donalds running for Governor and pointed out division in Republicans between Governor Ron DeSantis and President Donald Trump, who is supporting Donalds.

“Byron Donalds is a dangerous political opportunist who should be nowhere near the governor’s mansion,” said FDP Chair Nikki Fried. “One of the least popular people in Tallahassee politics, Byron is best known for skipping votes, defending insurrectionists, and promoting a revisionist version of Black history that defends Jim Crow. He has little political experience and no executive experience, and is completely unqualified to run the state of Florida.

“Byron is only interested in power, and he won’t fix our property insurance crisis or bring down the cost of living for Floridians. He only has a shot at the nomination because Trump endorsed him, and Trump is only endorsing him because he wants a puppet in the governor’s mansion — pissing off Ron DeSantis is an added bonus.”
