Renters Revolt at The Landmark at Universal Apartments

landmark at universal sucks
Renters at the Landmark at Universal apartments have launched a protest against the complex.

As more and more residents of Orange County are renting not owning, a new trend is emerging. Renters are organizing against management and demanding more respect and rights in regards to their housing.

Residents of The Landmark at Universal Apartment Complex on Vineland Road in Orlando say that they have “had enough” of their landlord’s excuses, delay tactics, and refusal to make good on promises made months ago. They will begin picketing outside the property beginning Saturday January 26 at 9:00 a.m. and will continue through Sunday and on future weekends until the problems are addressed.

“It’s unbelievable,” says Andrew Bunchuk, whose family car was damaged after The Landmark failed to provide properly functioning gate openers to his wife, Vicki. “The Landmark uses the word ‘LUXURY’ on the signs out front, but all you get is a first-class runaround when you try to get a response to such issues as the gates and security.”

The Orange Renters Community Association is organizing renters throughout the County, fighting against “violators of dignified living conditions” and on behalf of the rights of tenants. “These larger apartment complexes and national chains are more interested in collecting rent checks than negotiating with residents,” said Josh Paladino, Chief of Marketing at ORCA. “It’s pay or get out and it is an abomination.”

In addition to the broken gates, residents complain that management is not properly maintaining the grounds and not supplying the keys or cards needed to use the property as a resident. Residents here are charged a monthly fee for pet cleanup, but again, residents complain that despite the charges the grounds are a mess.

Bunchuk called management “very arrogant” and says that at least 18 tenants are attempting to organize and gather petitions, putting their complaints in writing as a community. Renters claim that management will call the Orlando Police Department if complaints are made.

“We want to facilitate a little solidarity and we want everyone to know that if we stick together, maybe Landmark will change its ways,” said Bunchuk.

Rather than withhold rent, which could lead others to believe they just don’t want to pay or face an eviction on their record, the Bunchuks continue their monthly payments to court officials while planning for Saturday’s protest. Fellow residents and friends are planning to join in and are already working on slogans like “Two-four-six-eight Landmark fix your broken gates!” They have also formed a communal website to share horror stories and warn others about renting there. “People deserve to know,” added Bunchuk.

Landmark at Universal management did not respond to a request for comment.

  1. Hahaha amazing that someone is bringing this up after their wife couldn’t drive their car correctly and into a free standing object (no excuses you suck at driving) and the husband made a fool of himself yelling cursing and causing a scene in the office.

Boycott all you wish, you’re idiots. I hope you leave as I enjoy living there and like it compared to you entitled fools…

Learn to drive, you won’t have to picket anything other than the lines at the DMV when your license is revoked…

  2. Please don’t send trash mail to my residence as well. Poor cause, No grounds, deal with your inability to decipher what is grounds for a “revolt”

2,4,6,8 get a clue and deal with fate!

  3. Quite honestly, what you should be picketing boycotting and revolting against are the tennants. Those that don’t clean up after their dogs, those that can’t clean a Barbeque grill after using it, those that don’t respect their neighbors late at night on their balconies, the drug use, the under 18 social club at the pool when all you want is a quiet swim, the idiots that can’t seem to clean their car without leaving their trash behind, and the shmucks that can’t understand what a stop sign is or that you don’t drive through a gate or back entrance damaging the property, or those that dump all their junk mail on the ground around the mail area. That’s just a few things off the top of my head, but it sure as hell isn’t the management it’s the tenants.

Have some respect for the place you live. Instead if slandering and defamation the ownership TAKE ownership for your community.

Don’t drive into the structures and blame in on someone other than yourself. Landmark has done nothing but good in my book, that’s why I’ve been here for 2 years.

What is your goal in revolting? As far as I see it you’re sending letters to us the other tenants and asking to be part of this and trying to make an issue out of ANY complaints.

I hope you’re as successful as Operation Wall St. Lots of complaining and you’re disputed by the powers that be.

You want to boycott something, get me a pass to Universal because of all the construction noise throughout the night otherwise keep yelling and “revolting” cause in the end Landmark may care, I sure as hell don’t…

  4. 300 some odd apartments and 1 lady who drives into the structure Is cause for a boycott?

Boycott the universal employees walking through my walkways in the mornings and evenings as I leave.

If I hear your boycott and I wake up from your foolishness I’m calling the cops myself freedom to assemble or not.

  5. Bottle neck of doom?

Are you serious, that must be that lady’s cat that drive into the center of the roundabout when she had to enter a code. You punch the numbers in, not your car into a cement feature.

And if you pay attention and follow traffic regulations, you’re pretty safe…

Hahahahaha this is comedy you martyrs!!!

    Please move

  6. This is awesome. My girlfriend and I look forward to boycotting your boycott…
Saturday is for sleep and I get that at the safe and luxurious Landmark.

  7. The Landmark at Universal is a place I call home, I can say I have never had any issues with management they all have been very professional.I enjoy living here at the Landmark and despite whatever is being said its a great place to live!

  8. Why is the news here to cover a fabricated story?

Does the media not check facts?

Do any of the “revolters” even reside here?

Stay on the sidewalk and away from the rotary of doom. You may cause some random driver to endanger the well being of someone in all that extra space and turnabout and cause them to idiotically drive their car into the center cement security code post and do damage to their car.

    Be safe out there…

  9. Is the guy that complained or was asked to leave and is the one creating the sites and commotion on a lease here?

  10. My neighbor asked I heard of this and directed me to the site…

    Where’s this revolt?

Is it at the pool, are they playing pool, are they eating popcorn or in the yoga class?

I don’t see the revolt but I heard its happening…

Or was that back in Egypt?

    I’m confused

What are we supposed to be uniting against?

I threw away your letter with the Chinese food menus I get in my mail.

  11. This place is a friggin nightmare. Just look at the reviews online I should have listened before I moved into this absolute shit hole

  12. Not to mention the property is a HUGE mess, there is trash and dog feces everywhere even on the sidewalks! There are kids that run around all over the property at night pulling out plants and making so much noise that they do nothing about, not to mention there is NO such thing a security here. It’s a joke. The landmark is a joke. I can’t WAIT to leave this place and never look back again.

  13. Landmark is section 8 low life tenants and the people running this place are even worse. The girls in the office sleep with half the guys here. I even heard one is an escort at night time.

  14. I actually have a friend at the landmark who is not satisfied with living there. I think it’s pretty ridiculous that people actually make promises and drop the ball after a years lease is signed. Owning a small business, I meet a lot of people who are interested in what I have to offer but pass it up because they are skeptical. I’m an honest person and I’m sick of people like the landmark that have a perfect sales pitch that don’t deliver and my business suffers because potential customers worry I might be just like you.

  15. I currently live at The Landmark and have had nothing but great service by them. When our ac broke, they were there with in the hour with a window ac and the next day our unit was fixed. Want to complain about the gates not working? Complain to the assholes who don’t know how to drive. The kids running around screaming? Yes, that needs to be addressed. I have spoken to them myself personally. Dog crap? Blame the damn neighbors who don’t know where to walk their dog. Apartment living isn’t always going to be a bed of roses. Everyone who lives here needs to work together and help make this a great place to live instead of blaming problems we make on the office.

  16. Lived there for the past 3 months and I don’t understand why I never get a response when I call the office. The move-in was great and they were super friendly to me during the whole process. The place actually cost more than I usually spend for an apartment but thought, “what the hell?”. Hell is right. My dishwasher/disposal combo keep breaking and it seems like instead of actually fixing the problem, they just band-aid. I DON’T PAY AS MUCH AS I DO TO NOT HAVE A DAMN DISHWASHER. The gates are a nightmare and I feel like people are always following others in.

  17. We have been living at the landmark for about six months and we have the general complaints against the tenants, not the management. The only real issue with management we had is that they don’t check messages when we leave a complaint about our upstairs neighbors and the bass guitar they play up there on a nightly basis. The smell of dog urine is disgusting at the bottom of our stairs and the kids running a muck through the place is ridiculous. I think a previous person said it, its the tenants, not the management.

Unfortunately, the price of the Landmark is just too high and we will probably be leaving. But we do not have complaints against management, just the people that live here that have no respect for their fellow tenants.

  18. I have heard lots of bad things about this place. There are wild parties across the fence at all hours of the night. Dogs shit all over the place, and the gate does not work correctly. Not to mention the leasing agents harrass residents and many of the tenants do not pay the full price to live in the place. It looks like a real nice place but there are lots of little quirks that make living there problematic at least thats what one of my friends who live there says about it.

  19. 2468 landmark fix your broken gate. Its not just one lady who hit the post its like 20 people one every couple of days. Someone just recently took the whole thing out. The gate is a problem and it needs to be fixed.

  20. I could not have said it any better. The post gets hit practically every other day. Just last weekend the whole damn thing was destroyed by someone moving in. Had crime scene tape wrapped around it. I heard a baby got seriously injured. 🙁 Landmark is a disgrace! #landmarkfail

  21. This is sooooo funny. A lady runs her yuppie mobile into a stationary concrete object and its the complex’s fault? The gate gets broken by the same idiots that hit the concrete call box and that’s the complex’s fault? Stop hitting the gate and there will be no issue. If you hit a 7 foot tall concrete call box turn in your keys cause your dangerous.
Stop being such crybabies. If you want quite seclusion move to New Zealand. Children make noise, dogs piss and shit, people forget to return calls, that life. I’m pretty sure if your bosses judged you on the standard you apply to everyone else you’d be considered inept also.

  22. The key card I was supplied by my gym broke so I smashed my car into a parked boat. can I have the number for your ambulance chaser?

  23. Google the interviewee. It would appear Mr. Bunchuk is a personal injury attorney. Whodathunkit? only a Lawyer could have dreamed this nonsense up.

  24. people, they are not “security gates” they are there to control the amount of cars coming in at one time or to keep the “honest” people out. your not going to stop someone who wants to come in. We love the landmark at universal the management and maintenance are nice and treat you with respect and respond quickly. The gates work… whats the problem? you cant drive? maybe you should get a smart car. people like this make me sick and have nothing better to do with their life then to sit around boycott because you cant drive your car. dog poop is everywhere but the staff tries to control it. There are doggy stations all over property with lots of bags pick the poop up. people these days.

  25. I lived at the Landmark when it first opened and a family moved in with 12 residents and ran an illegal daycare out the place. One girl got herself arrested for beating on her boyfriend and I had to keep a loaded gun on my kitchen counter for fear that I would be attacked or my apartment broken into. It is a GHETTO.

  26. Andrew bunchuk is not a lawyer and his wife is a closet alcoholic…his name isn’t bunchuk its bassaner and he’s from Philadelphia, pa….used to be in prison for many years, so he’s an ex- convict…trust me..go online and look up Andrew bassaner (guess who’s moving) moving company out of Bensalem, pa….everything you want to know about Andrew is right there…happy reading!!!!
