Jamaican Grammy-nominated Buju Banton will appear in a Tampa Court today, where he faces drug charges.
Banton was recently moved from a Miami jail where he has been locked up, to Tampa where the case is being prosecuted.
The reggae star, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, along with two others, was arrested on December 10th, and faces charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.
Banton’s management said well-known Miami criminal defense attorney David Oscar Markus has been retained. They also said he is innocent of the “trumped up drug charges.”
Banton, if convicted, could face up to life in prison.
