The Redistricting Advisory Committee will meet on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. at the Orange County Supervisor of Elections Office, 119 West Kaley Street in Orlando. The Committee will discuss several new proposals by members of the Committee, take public comment and begin to winnow down the number of proposals to one or two, from which it will ultimately make its redistricting recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners.
Commenting on the redistricting process so far, Chairman of the Redistricting Advisory Committee, Derek Bruce said: “I believe it has been very open. We have had a number of meetings and have gone to every district. We have heard from residents with their concerns and we will take all of this on board and try to come up with common products and recommendations.”
Bruce added that, it is very difficult to make changes to district lines which would “make everyone happy”, in view of the changing demographics and population of the County, but that it had to be done.
Members of the public still have an opportunity to comment on district maps and are encouraged to attend and give the Committee their input regarding proposed changes.
The Committee’s remaining meetings will each start at 6:00 p.m. and will be held at the Orange County Commission Chambers at 201 S. Rosalind Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801, every Wednesday through and including September 28, 2011.
