Red Lobster announced the launch of the Red Lobster Ocean Sustainability Challenge to protect and preserve marine ecosystems. The program invites middle school students nationwide to dream up innovative solutions to address real-world issues affecting oceans and waterways.
Red Lobster says it is the world’s largest seafood restaurant company focused on sourcing the highest quality, freshly prepared seafood that is traceable, sustainable, and responsibly sourced.
Rooted in Red Lobster’s long-standing Seafood with Standards initiative, the challenge reflects the company’s unwavering commitment to ocean protection and preservation. Students will have the opportunity to showcase their creativity and apply STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) skills to develop practical, impactful ideas that promote a healthier planet.
“At Red Lobster, we know that protecting our oceans is vital for future generations,” said Damola Adamolekun, CEO of Red Lobster. “The Red Lobster Ocean Sustainability Challenge embodies our commitment to sustainability by empowering young minds to think critically, innovate, and contribute to safeguarding our marine ecosystems. It’s inspiring to see the next generation take action and explore solutions that have the potential to make a real difference.”
The challenge officially kicked off on February 5th, and invites teams of up to five middle school students nationwide to submit their innovative ideas via a three-minute video presentation. Submissions will be evaluated by experts in ocean sustainability. The top five teams will win exciting prizes including free registration to the 2025 FIRST Robotics competition, with the grand prize-winning team going on an all-expenses paid trip to California to meet leading innovators in ocean sustainability among other fun activities.
The Red Lobster Ocean Sustainability Challenge will not only engage students, but also activate local communities and strengthen partnerships between Red Lobster restaurants, educators, and conservation organizations. By sparking creativity and awareness, this initiative furthers Red Lobster’s mission to foster responsible practices and inspire environmental stewardship.
