The number of American households on food stamps topped out at 23,116,441 in March, a new record, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said, dailycaller.com reported.
Known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or food stamps, each household receives an average monthly benefit of $274.30.
Currently, some 47,727,052 individuals are on SNAP, receiving an average monthly benefit of $132.86.
