This is not particularly good news for more than 5,000 residents in Apopka, Orange County, who woke up without heat this morning, Sunday, January 10th and have been without power for several hours.

Progress Energy, the light and power company that supplies electricity, does not have sufficient capacity, given that its power lines and transformers have been working overtime, on account of the several straight days of unseasonably cold weather in the Sunshine State.

The Company has said that more than 1,200 restoration workers have been called out to help fix the problem.

There are reports too, of power outages in Brevard, Seminole and Volusia counties and thousands have been left in the cold.

All power companies have indicated that they are operating at peak capacity.

Meteorologists have said that Central Florida would experience another cold night, near freezing temperatures around 20s.   Orlando could break its previous low temperature of 29 degrees, as temperatures are forecast to be around 26 degrees.

Reports continue to come in that “real” snow has been seen on roof tops, cars and palm trees.

The seasonal average for temperatures at this time is around 71 degrees in Central Florida.

Meanwhile, much of the south is facing record cold temperatures, including South Carolina, Texas and Georgia.
