A Rasmussen poll released Monday finds Florida Governor Charlie Crist, in his U.S. Senate bid, at his lowest level yet. A mere 28% of the state’s Republican voters would support Crist while his GOP rival, former House Speaker Marco Rubio would obtain 57 percent of likely GOP primary voters, his highest level of support to date.
A similar poll conducted in March found Crist at 34 percent, 6 percentage points higher than the current poll, while Rubio had 56 percent support of GOP primary voters.
The current Rasmussen also revealed that among Republican primary voters, Rubio was seen as a stonger candidate than Crist in the General Elections. Eighty-one percent (81%) see Rubio “Somewhat Likely” to win while 53 percent say he would “Very Likely” win, if nominated. For Crist, 63 percent (63%) see him “Somewhat Likely” to win, while 30 percent (30%) believe he would “Very Likely” win.
Crist and Rubio both lead likely Democratic nominee, Congressman Kendrick Meek by double-digits, the poll revealed.
Florida’s Republican Primary race is scheduled for August 24.
