What should Orange County Public Schools look for in a new superintendent?
Some might say the new superintendent should have experience in a similar district.
Others might say, an advanced degree in education. And still others might say, qualities such as integrity and people skills are critical.
So, if the process works, Orange County residents will have an opportunity to in on the qualifications they believe the next superintendent of Orange County Public Schools should have, as current Superintendent Ronald Blocker is set to retire in June 2012.
At an Orange County School Board meeting on Tuesday, a time-line for the search of a new superintendent was agreed to, including the appointment of a local Advisory Committee to undertake initial screening of candidates. Each board member will select three registered voters resident in Orange County to sit on the committee.
Once a consultant/search firm is selected, community groups will have an opportunity to input into the search criteria for a new superintendent.
According to the time-line set out, initial screening of suitable candidates is expected to be completed by the Advisory Committee in November 2011-January 2012 and a selection of the new superintendent made by the School Board in March 2012.
