Due to a delay in getting necessary approvals for the draft version of Seminole State Forest management plan, the State Forestry Division’s public hearings scheduled for Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at Camp Boggy Creek in Eustis have been postponed.
At the Aug. 17 meeting of the Lake County Board of County Commissioners, staff from the Seminole State Forest presented information on upcoming public hearings for the forest’s proposed 10-year resource management plan. According to staff, once new dates for the public hearings have been set, a legal advertisement will be posted in the Daily Commercial.
Florida Statute requires that at least one public hearing be held as part of development of the management plans for state forests, and that notice of such public hearing be announced at the Board of County Commissioners’ meeting. The current management plan will expire in December 2010. The Seminole State Forest is comprised of 27,064 acres, consisting of two separate tracts. The Seminole Tract is within the Wekiva River Basin in eastern Lake County, about 14 miles west of Sanford.
