Liberation in a Generation, an advocacy organization committed to advancing racial and economic justice, announced an Orlando town hall event focused on the critical issue of guaranteed housing. The event will feature Orlando Congressman Maxwell Frost and 1199 SEIU Executive Vice President Roxey Nelson, in conversation alongside Liberation in a Generation co-executive director Solana Rice.
The town hall will take place on Saturday, August 26th, at 12:00pm at the Callahan Neighborhood Center in Orlando.
According to the progressive organizers, the event, “Liberation Economy Town Hall,” aims to shine a light on the oppressive elements ingrained within the current economic landscape and to underscore the urgency of providing guaranteed housing in communities through Orlando and the state of Florida. The event will bring together diverse voices from the political, labor, and advocacy sectors to engage in a thoughtful discussion on the ways in which guaranteed housing can uplift communities and create a more equitable future.
“Housing costs continue to rise at a pace greater than the pace of too many people’s income,” said Solana Rice, Co-Executive Director of Liberation in a Generation. “Sadly, in the face of these rapidly rising housing costs many political leaders have made every effort to dismantle grassroots efforts to promote policies that can keep housing affordable for Floridians. Liberation in a Generation is committed to supporting progressive partners in Florida in strategizing with community organizers and directly-impacted people to develop solutions to dismantle our current oppression economy into a liberation economy that works for all people. Housing is a core component of the economic transformation we envision.”
The event is set to take place at the Callahan Neighborhood Center because it is a central hub for community engagement and dialogue. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an interactive Q&A session following the speakers’ presentations.
