Progressive Democrats, including the Executive Director of Our Revolution, renewed the push for uncommitted vote in the Democratic presidential primary after the State of the Union.
In his final State of the Union Address ahead of the 2024 general election, President Joe Biden signaled a significant policy shift in Gaza with the announcement that the U.S. military will construct a Mediterranean port to increase the flow of humanitarian aid to the besieged city.
President Biden didn’t go far enough for progressives and the calls for an uncommitted vote are growing on the left.
The announcement comes just days after a strong showing of uncommitted voters on Super Tuesday. Now Our Revolution joins labor organizations and progressive groups in endorsing a protest vote in the Washington State Democratic presidential primary.
Progressive Senator Bernie Sanders launched Our Revolution to empower people to stand up to corporate interests and make the government and the economy work for everyone.
Florida Democrats responded to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address with enthusiasm and calls to re-elect him “at all costs.”
Joseph Geevarghese, Executive Director of Our Revolution, released the following statement about the State of the Union and the ongoing protest vote push:
“While a step in the right direction, President Biden’s latest push to increase aid flow into Gaza [ALT: call tonight for a 2-month pause to the killing of civilians in Gaza] falls short of the permanent ceasefire supported by the majority of Democrats across the country. His use of the State of the Union Address to announce this significant policy shift, however, is a clear indication that our grassroots pressure campaign is working and that the White House is taking notice of uncommitted voters.
“As we’ve said from the start, in order for Biden to defeat Donald Trump in the general election, he must realign with the diverse, progressive voter base that secured his 2020 victory. That’s why we’re urging Our Revolution’s eight million grassroots members across the country to continue showing up and speaking out to pressure the President to call for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.”
