Powell to talk Education, Youth Needs in Orlando

Retired four-star general and leading youth advocate General Colin Powell will be in Orlando Wednesday, May 1st, for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s 107th Annual National Conference.

BGCA is hosting an information-packed, three-day meeting May 1 – 3 to explore solutions for the most pressing issues facing America’s young people, including violence, cyber and community safety, obesity, illiteracy and racial/ethnic achievement gaps.

The Conference opening session will feature an “up close and personal” discussion with Powell who will answer questions about the state of education and America’s youth, the unique needs of military youth and families, and the call for leadership, among other topics.

BGCA will also induct eight outstanding leaders and former Boys & Girls Club members into its Alumni Hall of Fame (AHOF). The 2013 inductees will join a roster of more than 150 prestigious AHOF members, such as Denzel Washington, Jennifer Lopez and Shaquille O’Neal.

Over 2,500 professionals are expected to be present at the three-day Annual National Conference.
