Earlier this week, Pope Francis gave a surprise telephone call to the owner of a newspaper kiosk in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to cancel the delivery of his morning paper, the Catholic News Agency reported.
On March 18, the kiosk’s owner’s son answered the phone, to hear a voice at the other end say, “Hi Daniel, it’s Cardinal Jorge,” the agency also reported.
Daniel Regno thought that a friend was pulling a prank. But, Pope Francis insisted, “Seriously, it’s Jorge Bergoglio, I’m calling you from Rome.”
Regno was so shocked he broke down in tears. He said the Pope thanked him for delivering the paper all the time and sent best wishes to his family.
