Polk County Sheriff’s deputies are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect(s) responsible for grave desecration in Polk City.
Deputies say, between January 8th and January 18th, 2011, unknown suspect(s) disturbed four grave-sites at the Old Platt Cemetery located on Barfield Road east of Smith Road in Polk City.
Investigators say the suspect(s) possibly removed remains from some of the graves.
At least one grave that was disturbed has a headstone in it that is very old, and illegible, deputies said. Research is underway to determine whose grave this is.
Deputies are contacting known family members to advise of the desecration and are not releasing the names until this process has been completed.
The desecration was discovered by a maintenance man for the cemetery. The cemetery is privately owned.
