Politics is like crack cocaine. Being elected one time is too much for some politicians and for others getting reelected ten times is not enough!
You can know the finest woman, very respectable, very concerned, loyal and monogamous. Give her some crack and her figure becomes hideous, her concern is no more and to get a ten cent crack rock she’ll sleep with anybody that can serve her.
A guy can be very industrious, hard working, honest and helpful. After a couple of hits on a crack pipe the same guy will never work, always lie and desert his friends and family.
In politics, at first, candidates love their communities, they kiss every baby they see and shake every hand that they can. They willingly accept phone calls and meet with people upon request.
After they’re elected you can’t call them anymore, you can’t meet with them anymore and you never see them again until the next election cycle. They will lie to both their base of voters and also to their biggest contributors.
And when politicians avoid you they encourage you to speak and meet with their puppets, anyone that politicians can control. Historically, this use of surrogates has been politically described as neocolonialism.
If politics changes people like crack cocaine, political power is worse! Political power corrupts!
Muammar Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi was once a “good soldier”. He has been the leader of Libya since he sort of flipped on everybody and led a coup in 1969. From 1972, when Gaddafi relinquished the title of prime minister, he has been called the “Brotherly Leader and Guide of the First of September Revolution of the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab” in government statements and the official press. With the death of Omar Bongo of Gabon on 8 June 2009, he became the longest serving of all current non-royal national leaders and he is one of the longest serving rulers in history. He is also the longest-serving ruler of Libya since Libya, then Tripoli, became an Ottoman province in 1551. Gaddafi is reported to have amassed a fortune for himself and his family of 60 billion dollars, including shares in Tamoil and one of Italy’s largest banks Unicredit. In 2008 a group of more than 200 African kings and traditional rulers proclaimed Gaddafi King of Kings of Africa.
Another once “good soldier” was Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe. Mugabe was cheered as a revolutionary freedom fighter and some said his lust for freedom was comparable to that of Sekou Toure, Amilcar Cabral, Kwame Nkrumah and others.
Today, Robert Mugabe is one of Africa’s most despised leaders. Perhaps the political power has corrupted him too.
If you don’t want to sacrifice, don’t want to be honest and don’t want to serve the people that elected you to represent them in government, stay out of politics.
When politicians get too crazy, the people will rise up and rebel as people are doing all over the world.
