Eustis Police have arrested two men and charged them with burglary and grand theft of copper and aluminum wire and other electric utility property valued at over $18,000.
Owen Watson, 23, and Travis Myers, 25, were arrested after police determined that more than 1600 feet of copper and aluminum cable were stolen from the ole Lowe’s property located at 15663 U.S. Highway 411, and evidence led them to these two suspects. The items stolen were the property of SECO Electric Company and were stored on Lowe’s property for an upcoming job. Police also found evidence that Myers’ vehicle was involved in the crime.
Watson and Myers took the stolen copper and aluminum to D&S Recycling in order to sell it as scrap and receipts showed that the suspects received about $822. Police recovered at the recycling facility a trailer belonging to the suspects which contained about 950 feet of the stolen wire sheathing, stolen communications cable and transformer insulators from SECO.
During interviews, Watson and Myers provided pertinent information about the case, which led police to make the arrests.
