Orlando police are investigating a possible case of animal cruelty at Lake Eola, downtown Orlando, after a dog attacked a swan so badly, that it had to be euthanized.
A witness told a park ranger that around 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 3, she saw an unknown white male release a Dachshund from its leash and allowed a male swan to be attacked by the dog. The witness judged that the act was deliberate, police said.
The swan was taken to the Winter Park Veterinary Hospital for treatment, but it was determined that the injuries sustained were so severe that the swan had to be put down. The swan suffered significant nerve damage in its left leg and chances of recovery were slim. The loss of the swan is estimated at $500.
Authorities are continuing with their investigation to determine whether it was a deliberate act on the part of the owner of the Dachshund.
