A man who shot and killed a 21-year-old woman downtown Orlando three weeks ago, was arrested in New York for her murder, Orlando police said Wednesday.
Ruben Rodriguez, 21, was arrested in Dunkirk, New York on Monday, and charged with first degree murder for the shooting death of 21-year-old Victoria Straughter.
Straughter was shot as she drove on Garland Avenue, near Washington Street, downtown Orlando in the early morning hours of September 15.
Dunkirk Police Department officers, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal Service arrested Rodriguez for local and unrelated outstanding charges.
Detectives from the Orlando Police Department flew to New York to interview Rodriguez.
Investigators said, numerous tips which were received following the shooting and after a candle light vigil for Straughter were instrumental in leading to Rodriguez’ arrest.
