Police: Orlando Man Arrested, Accused of Rape

A maintenance worker at an apartment complex in Orlando has been arrested, accused of raping a woman on Saturday night, Orlando Police said.

Edwin A. Colon

37-year-old Edwin Colon was charged with one count of sexual battery and is being held in the Orange County Jail.

According to the Arrest Affidavit, Colon, a maintenance worker at Dovetail Villas Apartments on Maussa Drive, assisted a female resident in gaining access to her apartment, as she was locked out.

The woman told detectives that Colon opened the door, allowed her to enter, but closed the door behind him and approached her. She said Colon grabbed her from behind and forced her onto the couch with her face to the wall and had sex with her.  The woman said she told him to stop on two occasions.

“…You owe me, I owe you, and I could lose my job for letting you in without being on the lease,” the woman said Colon told her.

The victim said when Colon was finished he got up and left the apartment. The woman told detectives she did not fight or scream, as she did not want to be injured physically.

The victim was able to identify Colon from a photo lineup and positively identified him as the same man who forced her to have sex. Her account was also corroborated by a witness who was contacted after the sexual battery occurred, investigators said.

When interviewed, Colon provided several conflicting statements to detectives.  He also admitted that he was under the influence of alcohol and that he had snorted cocaine twice on Saturday.

Police arrested Colon, who was booked into the Orange County Jail on Sunday around 6:00 am. He has been charged with one count of sexual battery.
