Police: Man Shot by Cops on Jefferson Street

Orlando police officers shot a man who they say failed to comply with verbal commands, after cops initiated a stop on a vehicle believed to be stolen on Tuesday night.

Police were responding to a report of a stolen vehicle when they located it and attempted to stop it in the 700 block of West Jefferson Street, in Orlando. That’s when 28-year-old Antonio Stephens jumped out of the vehicle with a firearm.

According to police, Stephens refused to comply with officers’ orders and they opened fire.

Stephen was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center for treatment, a statement from OPD said. His condition is unknown.

Police said, a woman who was driving, remained with the vehicle.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of an investigation. Their names have not been released.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement is leading the investigation.
