In Broad Daylight, SunRail Severs Body On Sanford Tracks

SunRail2finalSanford police have identified the man struck and killed by a SunRail train last Thursday night.

The victim is 55-year-old Richard Holley, of Orlando.

Surveillance video shows Holley was hit by a SunRail train on the track, about 500 yards north of the West State Road 46 overpass, police say.  The train was traveling northbound toward the Sanford terminal and then on to its final stop for the night in Debary.

The following morning, August 29, just after 5:00 a.m., an engineer operating a SunRail train observed a body lying in the middle of the tracks.

It is not clear if the operator of the train knew that something or someone had been struck on Thursday night.

A traffic homicide investigation is currently being undertaken by the Sanford Police Department.
