Orlando police shot and killed an armed man who was standing in the middle of Interstate 4, early on Monday morning.
The incident happened near Livingston Street, and according to the Orlando Police Department, officers were forced to engage the man, based on his actions.
Police initially believed that the man who they killed was connected to an armed robbery that had taken place earlier in the area of Rock Lake and Amelia Street, just off Orange Blossom Trail. Officers who responded to the armed robbery were able to apprehend the suspect after conducting a felony traffic stop.
The victim who reported the armed robbery had many inconsistencies in his story and has declined to press charges, police said. The suspect in the vehicle has been released with no charges.
Meanwhile, police have determined that the suspect in the armed robbery had no connection to the man who was fatally shot in the middle of Interstate 4.
Police have not identified the man who officers shot and killed and it is unknown why he was armed in the middle of Interstate 4.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is conducting an investigation, which is standard procedure.
