The pilot of a helicopter landed safely on the side of SR 50 on Tuesday morning, after he aborted his flight from Fort Lauderdale to Kissimmee.
Troopers said, 40-year-old Mark Roberts of Hillsboro Beach, who was flying the 2006 Robison R44 Raven helicopter, traveling to Kissimmee for the War Bird Show, made an emergency landing south of Christmas School Road around 6:00 a.m.
Roberts told a FHP trooper patrolling on SR 50 near Taylor Creek Road that visibility had become so bad that he decided to make an emergency landing. Roberts safely brought the copper down on the side of the road in front of the Church of God.
SR 50 was shut down briefly at 9:30 a.m. so that Roberts and his passenger could take off.
There were no injuries and troopers say, traffic was only minimally affected.
