Final Destiny Productions an independent film company, has a winner on its hands with “Perfect Copy.” It is an intelligent sci-fi thriller that tackles several social issues of the near future. Cloning and the rights of cloned individuals, kidnapping by the government in the name of national security, and torture are just the ones I caught. I’m sure there are more beneath the surface that I missed. Filmed on a shoestring budget it has a professional look to it. Established actors Kenny Miller and Deb Storm have small parts here as well. The script is insightful and powerful. While this is a compact edition it is like a very good short story that becomes a full-fledged novel. “Perfect Copy” cries out for major studio attention because it could be a very powerful longer version sci fi film that could show in a theatre or go direct to DVD distribution or a made for TV movie.
Final Destiny has packed this DVD with some great extras. The commentary by director/executive producer Joseph Tolley and scriptwriter Glenda C. Finkelstein who is also one of the actors adds so much to the enjoyment of the film. I’ve heard other DVD commentaries that are a mish mash of nothing more than the actors joking and laughing about the clothes they wore in a scene or other ridiculous information the viewer has no real interest in. This one is very interesting and fun to listen to because it tells things like where a scene was filmed, for the outside ones what type of day it was, or how long it took to shoot. There are several still photo galleries that show a lot of behind the scenes, funny bloopers, an interview with Glenda C. Finkelstein, a tour of the sci-fi convention Oasis, and a recording session showing how the dialogue is added to the film.
This movie should be entered into as many film festivals as possible as a way to get attention because it deserves so much more
I would love to see what becomes of this project because it is left with a cliffhanger ending.
